Laura Bassi Scholarship – Editorial Assistance


The Laura Bassi Scholarship was established by Editing Press in 2018 with the aim of providing editorial assistance to postgraduates and junior academics whose research focuses on neglected topics of study, broadly construed. The scholarships are open to every discipline.

The Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) program provides financial support to high-calibre scholars who are engaged in eligible master’s programs in Canada.

Value: $17,500 for 12 months

SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships and Canada Graduate Scholarships (Doctoral)

SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships provide support for individuals undertaking doctoral studies at Canadian or foreign universities. Application forms and instructions are now available.

Both the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships and the Canada Graduate Scholarships—Doctoral Scholarships (CGS-D) are offered through a single annual national competition. Applicants should refer to the online descriptions for each award to determine their eligibility to apply to and hold each award, as there are notable differences. Applicants eligible for both the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships and the CGS-D Scholarships will automatically be considered for both awards. Only one application is required for consideration of one or both awards.

Amount:
SSHRC Doctoral: $20,000 per year for 12, 24, 36 or 48 months, up to a total of $80,000.

CGS-D: $35,000 per year (Canadian Institutions only)

CIGI – International Law Research Program’s Doctoral Scholarship Competition

The International Law Research Program (ILRP) of the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) is pleased to announce its Doctoral Scholarship Competition for the 2019-2020 academic year. The ILRP invites Canadian and foreign students who are currently enrolled in SJD or PhD in Law studies at a Canadian university faculty of law to apply for the CIGI ILRP Doctoral Scholarship.

The ILRP Doctoral Scholarship is designed to enhance research opportunities for SJD and PhD in Law students from Canadian faculties of law who wish to develop expertise in one or more of the ILRP’s areas of research focus and to develop world-class intellectual strength in the areas of international law that are most important to global innovation, prosperity, sustainability and security.

Amount:  The value of the Doctoral Scholarship is up to $56,000 CAD.

Residence: must spend a four-month period of residency at the CIGI Campus within year 1 of the scholarship.

Canadian Japanese Mennonite Scholarship

Amount: $2,000

Application Deadline: April 1, 201

Selection Criteria: The scholarship will be awarded to a student who is:

  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or international student studying at a Canadian university in Canada;
  • Enrolled in a graduate degree program the fall semester following the deadline; and
  • Engaged in research that will assist the protection of minority or human rights in Canada

Sponsors: National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) and Mennonite Central Committee Canada (MCC Canada)

History and Purpose of the Scholarship:
The scholarship was created as a tangible symbol of co-operation between Canadian Japanese and Canadian Mennonites subsequent to a formal apology that was offered to Canadian Japanese by MCC Canada on behalf of Canadian Mennonites. The scholarship is intended to assist the protection of minority and human rights in Canada, and to reduce the potential for abuse of cultural minorities such as that suffered by Japanese Canadians during World War II.

Doctoral Scholarship – International Law

2018 Canadian Japanese Mennonite Scholarship – Human Rights in Canada

The Mennonite Central Committee Canada, with the National Association of Japanese Canadians, offers the Canadian Japanese Mennonite scholarship to a student enrolled in a graduate degree program that is engaged in research concerning human rights in Canada.  The scholarship is for $2,000 and applications must be received by April 1, 2018.
