SAGE, Western’s Indigenous Graduate Student Support Network, is hosting a research symposium to showcase Indigenous brilliance at Western and in the local community. Biidaaskonenjigewag means “they come with a light” in the Anishinaabe language and highlights the diverse gifts that knowledge keepers and scholars contribute to their communities. Join for the day to celebrate and honour Indigenous artists, language speakers, and researchers.

WUGSOM will continue to hold the conference online. The program committee invites graduate students from all institutions and disciplines to submit proposals for papers on any aspect of music, including but by no means limited to music theory, musicology, ethnomusicology, music cognition, music education, composition, and performance. They welcome papers on any topic and encourage a diversity of excellence in research across many fields.

The deadline for submission is Friday, June 30th, 2022 at 4:00 pm EST.

Presentations are limited to 20 minutes, with a 10-minute question period. All submissions must include the title of the paper and a proposal not exceeding 350 words. Proposals should not include supplementary materials or figures and should not include your name or other identifying information. Western Complex Systems Conference 2022

Along with Western Research, the Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS) Lab is pleased to host the inaugural Western Complex Systems Conference (WCSC) on March 30, 2022. This one-day conference highlights the application of complexity theory and systems thinking across disciplines. Across vast diversity in fields, methodologies, and domain expertise, the common thread is curiosity about the ways that nonlinear dynamics and systemic thinking invite us to understand and respond to our world.

Queer Research Day 2021 – Call for Papers and Presentations

The Sexuality and Gender Research Group at Western University will be holding the eleventh annual Queer Research Day on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. This will be an online conference, so presentations need to be in a format that can be read or otherwise displayed effectively on Zoom. The group welcomes 15 – 20 minute oral presentations, in particular, but is also interested in other types of proposals, including artists’ performances, film screenings, musical events, and other forms of queer work.

Registration is free, but you will be required to register in order to receive the Zoom invitation. More information on registration will be available shortly.

Faculty and graduate students are welcome to participate or just to attend. If you are interested in presenting, please email a short abstract with title or a brief description of your paper or other proposal to Wendy Pearson (wpearson@uwo.ca). The group hopes to include presentations on a wide variety of topics from a broad range of disciplines. The deadline for receiving proposals is April 14, 2021.

Western University Graduate Symposium on Music 2021

Concordia University Library’s 17th Annual Research Forum

Registration is now open for Concordia University Library’s 17th Annual Research Forum, in Montreal. This year’s Research Forum will be held on Friday, April 26th, 2019, at the Loyola Jesuit Hall and Conference Centre.

Registration is free and includes a light breakfast and lunch. To register and view the preliminary conference schedule, please click here.

The Research Forum provides an opportunity for librarians, archivists, graduate students, teaching faculty, and information professionals to describe and promote their completed or in-progress research, practical case studies or projects. The Forum also provides a venue for researchers to seek suggestions for enhancing their research interests, to identify potential new partners for projects, to test the effectiveness of their undertakings, and to promote research in academic libraries.

This year’s keynote speaker is Camille Callison, Tsesk iye (Crow) Clan of the Tahltan Nation, who is the Learning & Organizational Development Librarian and a PhD student (Anthropology) at the University of Manitoba. Camille is Past Chair of the Indigenous Matters Committee and a Copyright Committee member of the Canadian Federation of Library Associations (CFLA-FCAB). She chaired the CFLA-FCAB Truth and Reconciliation Committee and is an Indigenous Partner on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Taskforce. Camille is a member of IFLA Indigenous Matters Section Standing Committee and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO Memory of the World Committee and Sector Commission on Culture, Communications & Information.

Robert Collinsbrings significant experience from senior roles in provincial and municipal governments in South Western Ontario. Robert is active in a number of initiatives designed to address the anticipated labour market shortages and close the gaps between supply and demand – an identified cornerstone of community economic resilience and sustainability. Through this experience, Robert can share some useful insights to help accelerate your career success. Robert has made full use of London’s fine educational opportunities graduating from the University of Western Ontario, Teacher’s College and Fanshawe College after originally coming from London, England. Robert continues to be an active volunteer at Western having been a past President of our Alumni Association and is currently a member of Senate.

Pizza will be available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis for those attending the event. No registration is required.
